Equipment Inventory and Documentation

  • How many elevators and escalators serve the building, and what type (hydraulic, traction, MRL)? *
  • Are current certificates of operation posted and inspection records available? *
  • Is a maintenance control program (MCP) documented per ASME A17.1?
  • What is the approximate age and last modernization date of the equipment?

Machine Room and Drive Equipment

  • Are controllers, drives, and machines free of overheating, leaks, or excessive wear? *
  • Is the machine room clean, ventilated, and free of non-elevator storage? *
  • Are governor, ropes, and sheaves within wear tolerances? *

Car, Hoistway and Ride Quality

  • Are car finishes, lighting, and fixtures in serviceable condition? *
  • Is ride quality smooth with accurate floor leveling at stops? *
  • Are hoistway doors, interlocks, and gibs functioning without excessive play? *
  • Is the pit clean, dry, and equipped with functioning stop switch and light? *

Escalator Condition

  • Are steps, combplates, and skirt panels free of damage and properly aligned?
  • Are handrails synchronized with step speed and free of wear?
  • Are entry/egress safety devices, brushes, and guards functional?

Safety, Code Compliance and Accessibility

  • Are firefighter service (Phase I/II) and emergency recall operational? *
  • Are emergency communication, alarm, and battery lowering (hydraulic) functional? *
  • Do controls, signals, and clearances meet ADA accessibility requirements? *
  • Are outstanding code violations or required upgrades identified with cost impact?
