Refrigeration Plant and Machinery

  • Is the refrigeration system type documented (ammonia/R-717, CO2, HFC)? *
  • Are compressors, condensers, and evaporators operational and free of visible leaks? *
  • Is an IIAR-compliant machinery room provided with ventilation and gas detection where ammonia is used? *
  • Are emergency pressure control and relief valves piped to a safe discharge point? *
  • Is a process safety management (PSM) or RMP program in place for regulated ammonia quantities?

Insulated Envelope and Panels

  • Are insulated metal wall and ceiling panels free of delamination, dents, or corrosion? *
  • Are panel joints and gaskets sealed without frost or condensation bleed-through? *
  • Is the vapor barrier continuous and intact at penetrations and transitions? *
  • Are freezer and cooler doors, air curtains, and strip curtains sealing properly? *

Floor Systems and Sub-Slab Heating

  • Is the freezer floor free of heaving, cracking, or frost-jacking distress? *
  • Is a sub-slab heating system (glycol or electric) present and operational to prevent frost heave? *
  • Are floor insulation and moisture barriers documented in construction records?
  • Are dock and transition thresholds free of ice buildup? *

Temperature Control and Monitoring

  • Is a temperature monitoring and alarm system installed for each temperature zone? *
  • Are set-point records and temperature logs available and within specification?
  • Are evaporator defrost cycles functioning without excessive coil icing? *
  • Is backup power or standby refrigeration capacity provided for critical rooms?

Life Safety and Personnel

  • Are internal freezer release hardware and door hardware operable from inside? *
  • Is emergency lighting provided in cold rooms and machinery areas? *
  • Are ammonia emergency signage and PPE stations present where required?
