Pedestrian Signal Indications

  • Are WALK/DON'T WALK (hand/person) indications visible and functioning on all crossings? *
  • Do pedestrian countdown timers display and match the pedestrian change interval? *
  • Is the walking speed used for clearance time 3.5 ft/s or less? *
  • Measured pedestrian clearance interval (seconds)

Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS)

  • Do APS provide both audible (speech/tone) and vibrotactile WALK indication? *
  • Is a locator tone provided at the pushbutton?
  • Does the pushbutton have a tactile arrow aligned with the crossing direction? *
  • Is audible volume responsive to ambient sound levels?

Pushbutton Placement & Reach

  • Is the pushbutton mounted 15 in to 48 in above the landing (reach range)? *
  • Is the pushbutton within 10 ft of the crosswalk line and 5 ft of the curb ramp?
  • Is a level, firm landing (min 30 in x 48 in) provided at the pushbutton? *

Findings

  • Were any non-compliant crossings identified? *
