Device Identification
- Device ID / location (route and milepost) *
- Date of inspection *
- Device type (full-matrix DMS, hybrid, CCTV, RWIS, detector, etc.)
Display & Legibility
- Are all pixels/modules functioning with no significant burned-out elements? *
- Is the message legible at the required distance for the posted speed? *
- Does automatic dimming respond correctly to ambient light?
- Is the display face free of moisture intrusion, glare film damage, or fading?
Communications & Control
- Does the device respond to commands from the traffic management center (NTCIP)? *
- Is the communications link (fiber/cellular/wireless) stable and error-free?
- Are controller firmware/software at approved versions?
Power & Enclosure
- Is the power supply (utility/solar) operating and batteries within service life? *
- Are cabinet seals, ventilation, and thermostats intact and functional?
- Is surge/lightning protection and grounding intact? *
Structure & Access
- Is the sign support/overhead structure free of corrosion, cracking, or loose connections? *
- Are walkways, ladders, and fall-protection anchors safe for maintenance access?
