Legal Compliance & Management Planning

  • Is a forest management plan in place with objectives, inventory data, and planned operations? *
  • Is the forest owner in compliance with applicable laws, tenure/use rights, and tax obligations? *
  • Is harvest level maintained at or below the long-term sustainable yield? *
  • Are operations monitored and results used to adapt the management plan? *

Biodiversity & Ecosystem Protection

  • Are ecologically important forest areas, rare/threatened species, and their habitats identified and protected? *
  • Is deadwood, veteran trees, and structural diversity retained to support biodiversity? *
  • Is regeneration achieved using species suited to the site, favoring native species where appropriate? *
  • Is conversion of forest to other land use or plantations avoided except in justified cases? *

Forest Health, Soil & Water

  • Are chemical pesticides minimized, and are WHO Class 1A/1B and banned chemicals avoided? *
  • Are practices in place to protect soil productivity and water quality during operations? *
  • Is forest health monitored for pests, disease, fire, and other damaging agents? *

Social & Worker Requirements

  • Are worker health and safety practices consistent with applicable regulations and ILO guidance? *
  • Are the rights of workers, local communities, and indigenous peoples respected? *
  • Are contractors informed of and required to meet the certification requirements? *
