Assessment & Planning
- Has a hazard assessment identified fuel loading, topography, and structure ignition risk in the treatment area? *
- Is a written fuel treatment prescription prepared defining target fuel loads, spacing, and canopy conditions? *
- Have required environmental reviews and permits (NEPA, threatened/endangered species, cultural resources) been completed? *
Fuel Reduction Treatment
- Is surface, ladder, and canopy fuel reduced (thinning, pruning, mastication) to break vertical and horizontal fuel continuity? *
- Are treatment residues (slash) piled, chipped, or removed to avoid creating new fire hazard? *
- Is crown spacing and canopy base height achieved per the prescription to reduce crown-fire potential? *
Defensible Space & Structure Protection
- Are defensible-space zones around structures established with appropriate vegetation clearance and spacing? *
- Are access roads and driveways maintained to allow fire apparatus ingress and egress? *
- Are water supply and hydrant/draft-source provisions identified for the interface area?
Monitoring & Maintenance
- Is treatment effectiveness monitored and documented against the prescription objectives? *
- Is a maintenance schedule established to re-treat regrowth and maintain reduced fuel conditions over time? *
- Are treatment records and maps retained for planning and interagency coordination? *
