Approved Manual and Documentation

  • Is an approved ship-specific Cargo Securing Manual carried on board? *
  • Does the manual reflect the actual securing equipment and stowage arrangements currently in use? *
  • Are cargo unit weights and the ship's stability limits available to plan securing? *

Securing Equipment Condition

  • Are lashing chains, wires, rods, turnbuckles, and twistlocks in good condition and free from excessive wear or corrosion? *
  • Is portable securing equipment inspected and maintained per the manual's inspection regime? *
  • Are damaged or condemned securing devices withdrawn from service and recorded? *
  • Enter the maximum securing load (MSL) rating available for the primary lashing type.

Stowage and Securing Arrangements

  • Is cargo stowed and secured in accordance with the approved manual for the intended voyage and expected weather? *
  • Are non-standardised or heavy/awkward cargo units secured by an approved calculated method? *
  • Are fixed securing points (D-rings, container fittings) sound and free from deformation? *

Voyage Checks and Records

  • Are cargo lashings inspected and re-tightened as necessary during the voyage, especially after heavy weather? *
  • Are crew handling securing equipment trained and provided with appropriate PPE? *
  • Attach a photo of a representative secured cargo unit for the record.
