Inventory & Completeness

  • Is a current chemical inventory maintained that matches every hazardous product on site? *
  • Is an SDS on file for each hazardous chemical known to be present? *
  • Are missing SDSs requested from the manufacturer, importer, or distributor and documented? *
  • List any chemicals currently missing an SDS: *

Format & Content

  • Does each SDS follow the required 16-section GHS-aligned format? *
  • Are SDSs in English (additional languages permitted) and legible? *
  • Do SDSs reflect the most recent hazard classification and label elements? *

Accessibility

  • Are SDSs readily accessible to employees during all work shifts without barriers? *
  • If electronic, is a reliable backup and immediate-access method available during outages or emergencies? *
  • Do employees know where and how to retrieve an SDS in their work area? *

Currency & Maintenance

  • Is the library reviewed periodically to remove discontinued products and add new ones? *
  • Are updated SDSs (received with new significant information) added within three months? *
  • Is there a designated person responsible for maintaining the SDS library? *
