Duty & Driving Limits

  • Are drivers limited to 11 hours of driving after 10 consecutive hours off duty (property carriers)? *
  • Is driving prohibited beyond the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty? *
  • Is the 30-minute break taken after 8 cumulative hours of driving time? *
  • Are the 60-hour/7-day and 70-hour/8-day limits observed? *

Records of Duty Status

  • Are drivers using a compliant electronic logging device (or valid exception)? *
  • Are supporting documents retained and reconciled against ELD records? *
  • Are ELD malfunctions handled with paper logs and repair within 8 days? *

Fatigue Controls

  • Are drivers trained to recognize fatigue and empowered to stop driving when impaired? *
  • Are dispatching and scheduling practices reviewed so they do not force HOS violations? *
  • Is the adverse driving conditions exception applied and documented only when justified? *

Oversight

  • Are HOS logs audited regularly for violations and falsification? *
  • Are violations corrected with documented coaching or discipline? *
