MSA Study Planning

  • Have measurement systems for control-plan characteristics been identified for study? *
  • Is the appropriate study type selected (variable vs. attribute)? *
  • Are the parts selected to represent the expected range of process variation? *
  • Are qualified appraisers and calibrated gauges assigned to the study? *
  • Gauge / instrument ID *

Statistical Properties (Bias, Linearity, Stability)

  • Has bias been evaluated against a reference/master value? *
  • Has linearity been assessed across the operating range of the gauge?
  • Is stability monitored over time (e.g., control chart on a master part)?

Gauge R&R Study

  • Is the study conducted with the standard configuration (e.g., 10 parts, 3 appraisers, 3 trials) or a justified alternative? *
  • Are parts measured in random order and appraisers blind to prior readings? *
  • Are repeatability (equipment variation) and reproducibility (appraiser variation) calculated? *
  • Is the number of distinct categories (ndc) ≥ 5? *

Acceptance & Disposition

  • Is %GRR under 10% (acceptable), or 10-30% (conditionally acceptable) with justification? *
  • Measured %GRR value
  • For %GRR over 30%, is the measurement system rejected and improvement action defined? *
  • Are study results retained as documented information? *
