Management & Job Audits
- Is a heat treat system assessment (HTSA) completed at least annually and signed by management? *
- Are job audits performed to verify parts are processed to the applicable specification and control plan? *
- Are operator qualifications and training records maintained for heat-treat personnel? *
Pyrometry (Section 3)
- Is system accuracy testing (SAT) performed at the required frequency for each control/recording instrument? *
- Are temperature uniformity surveys (TUS) conducted at the required frequency for each qualified furnace? *
- Are thermocouple types, usage limits, and calibration/replacement intervals controlled per the thermocouple table? *
- Is the instrumentation type (A-E) correctly assigned to each furnace and documented? *
Process Monitoring & Tables
- Are process parameters (temperature, time, atmosphere/carbon potential, quench) recorded and within the process table limits? *
- Is quenchant condition monitored (temperature, concentration, agitation, cooling curve) per the quench requirements? *
- Are alarms and reaction plans in place for out-of-limit process excursions? *
Equipment & Laboratory
- Is preventive maintenance performed on furnaces, quench systems, and pyrometry equipment? *
- Are metallurgical test methods (hardness, microstructure, case depth) validated and equipment calibrated? *
- Record furnace ID(s) assessed and next TUS/SAT due dates
