Class Location Determination

  • Has the class location for each pipeline segment been determined using the sliding-mile building-unit count method? *
  • Are identified sites (schools, hospitals, occupied buildings, gathering places) documented in the class-location analysis? *
  • Is there a program to periodically review population growth and re-evaluate class locations along the right-of-way? *
  • Select the assigned class location for this segment. *

MAOP Establishment

  • Was MAOP established as the lowest of the design pressure, test pressure divided by the applicable factor, and pressure history? *
  • Does the design pressure calculation use the correct class-location design factor (F), joint factor, and temperature derating? *
  • Record the established MAOP for the segment (psig). *
  • Where a class-location change increased population, was the segment confirmed, replaced, or MAOP reduced as required? *

Records & Traceable Documentation

  • Are traceable, verifiable, and complete (TVC) records available to support the established MAOP? *
  • Are pressure test records (medium, pressure, duration) retained for the life of the pipeline? *
  • Are pipe material, wall thickness, grade (SMYS), and seam type documented for each segment? *

Overpressure Protection

  • Are pressure-limiting and regulating devices set to prevent pressure from exceeding MAOP plus the allowable buildup? *
  • Are relief and pressure-control devices inspected and tested at the required intervals? *
  • Date of the most recent overpressure protection device inspection. *
