Survey & Identification
- Are radiation surveys performed on production equipment, tanks, and piping suspected of NORM accumulation using a calibrated survey meter? *
- Are components exceeding the regulatory exposure or contamination threshold identified, labeled, and logged? *
- Is a NORM inventory maintained identifying the location and activity level of contaminated equipment and waste? *
Worker Protection
- Are occupational radiation exposures kept as low as reasonably achievable and below applicable dose limits? *
- Is respiratory and dermal protection required when opening, cleaning, or cutting NORM-contaminated equipment to control dust and inhalation? *
- Have workers handling NORM received training on radiation hazards and protective procedures? *
Storage & Labeling
- Is NORM-contaminated material stored in a controlled, secured, and posted area to prevent unauthorized access? *
- Are radioactive material warning signs and labels posted where required? *
- Are storage containers sealed and managed to prevent dispersal of contaminated scale or sludge? *
Disposal & Records
- Is NORM waste transferred only to a licensed or permitted disposal facility with proper manifesting? *
- Is equipment released for reuse or scrap only after survey confirms it meets applicable release criteria? *
- Are disposal, transfer, and release survey records retained per state requirements? *
