Geochemical Characterization
- Has acid-base accounting (ABA) and/or humidity cell testing characterized the acid-generating potential of waste rock and tailings? *
- Are potentially acid-generating (PAG) and non-PAG materials segregated and tracked? *
- Is metal leaching potential assessed in addition to acid generation? *
Source Controls
- Are PAG materials encapsulated, covered, or subaqueously disposed to limit oxygen and water contact? *
- Is clean run-on diverted away from mine waste and contact water contained separately? *
- Are alkaline amendments or blending used where appropriate to neutralize acid generation? *
Water Collection & Treatment
- Is contact water collected and routed to treatment (active or passive) before discharge? *
- Is treatment sized to meet effluent limits for pH, iron, manganese, and total suspended solids? *
- Are treatment residuals (sludge) managed and disposed of appropriately? *
Monitoring & Discharge Compliance
- Are NPDES-permitted outfalls sampled at the required frequency for permitted parameters? *
- Is upstream/downstream and groundwater monitoring conducted to detect AMD impacts? *
- Record the most recent discharge pH result. *
- Are exceedances reported and corrective actions documented? *
