Containment & Solution Management
- Are leach pads, ponds, and process solution channels equipped with liners and leak-detection/collection systems to prevent release? *
- Is adequate freeboard and storm-event storage capacity maintained in solution ponds to prevent overtopping? *
- Are process solutions kept within the design operating range to avoid uncontrolled discharge? *
Cyanide Handling & Worker Safety
- Is cyanide unloaded, mixed, and stored using engineered systems that prevent HCN gas formation and worker exposure? *
- Is solution pH maintained sufficiently alkaline (protective alkalinity) to minimize HCN gas evolution? *
- Are HCN gas monitoring, cyanide antidote, and emergency response provisions available where cyanide is handled? *
Cyanide Destruction & Detoxification
- Is a cyanide destruction process (e.g., SO2/air, hydrogen peroxide, or INCO) applied to detoxify solutions and tailings before discharge or disposal? *
- Is weak-acid-dissociable (WAD) cyanide monitored to confirm it is reduced below the applicable discharge or storage threshold? *
- Record the WAD cyanide concentration of the treated solution (mg/L). *
Wildlife Protection & Closure
- Are open-water cyanide concentrations kept below 50 mg/L WAD or otherwise mitigated to protect wildlife and birds? *
- Is a heap and pond rinse/detoxification plan in place for closure to neutralize residual cyanide? *
- Are cyanide monitoring and destruction records retained to demonstrate compliance? *
