Stowage Preparation
- Is the timber stow planned so that hatch covers and other openings remain accessible and weathertight where required? *
- Are uprights fitted where the nature, height, or character of the stow requires them, and of adequate strength? *
- Is the deck free of ice, snow, and other material that would reduce friction under the stow? *
- Are freeing ports and scuppers kept clear so trapped water can drain from the deck? *
Lashing and Securing
- Are lashings spaced and of a type and strength consistent with the approved Cargo Securing Manual and the TDC Code? *
- Are tensioning devices, hooks, and shackles of adequate strength and free of defects? *
- Are arrangements in place to re-tension lashings during the voyage as the stow settles? *
- Enter the number of independent lashings applied over the timber deck stow.
Stability and Freeboard
- Has stability been calculated allowing for water absorption and ice accretion of the deck cargo? *
- Where the vessel uses the timber load line, are the applicable freeboard conditions satisfied? *
- Is the height of the deck cargo kept within the limits that maintain adequate visibility from the bridge? *
Crew Safety and Access
- Is a safe means of access, such as a walkway or lifeline, provided over or alongside the deck cargo? *
- Are crew instructed not to work on the timber stow in heavy weather without specific authorization? *
- Is fall-protection equipment available for personnel required to access the top of the stow? *
