Stowage Arrangements
- Is the timber stowed compactly, level, and clear of accommodation, vents, and safety fittings? *
- Are hatch covers and openings under the cargo secured and weathertight before stowing? *
- Are uprights/stanchions fitted where required by the stowage height and cargo type? *
Securing and Lashings
- Are lashings of adequate strength, spacing, and pre-tension per the approved securing arrangement? *
- Are lashing tensioners, wires, and components in serviceable condition? *
- Is a system provided to re-tighten lashings during the voyage as timber settles? *
Stability and Draught
- Is stability calculated allowing for water absorption and possible ice accretion of the timber? *
- If timber load lines are used, is the assigned timber freeboard applied correctly? *
- Is metacentric height kept within limits to avoid excessive accelerations from a large GM? *
Crew Safety and Access
- Is a safe means of access provided over or around the deck cargo (walkway, lifeline)? *
- Are freeing ports and scuppers kept clear so trapped water can drain? *
- Are crew instructed not to access the deck cargo in heavy weather except when essential? *
