Certification and Documentation

  • Is a valid Maritime Labour Certificate and the Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance (DMLC Parts I and II) on board? *
  • Does every seafarer have a signed Seafarers' Employment Agreement (SEA) with a copy available on board? *
  • Is a copy of the applicable collective bargaining agreement (where in force) available in English?

Hours of Work and Rest

  • Are records of daily hours of rest maintained, endorsed, and compliant with the minimum rest requirements? *
  • Do seafarers receive minimum rest of 10 hours in any 24-hour period and 77 hours in any 7-day period? *
  • Is a table of shipboard working arrangements posted in an accessible place in the working language and English? *

Wages and Employment

  • Are seafarers paid at monthly (or less) intervals with an itemized account of wages provided? *
  • Is the minimum age (16, or 18 for night work/hazardous work) verified for all seafarers? *
  • Do all seafarers hold a valid medical fitness certificate? *

Accommodation, Food and Recreation

  • Are crew accommodation, sanitary facilities, heating, ventilation, and lighting maintained to the required standard? *
  • Is food of appropriate quality, quantity, and nutritional value provided free of charge? *
  • Is the ship's cook trained, qualified, and certificated for their duties? *

Health, Safety and Complaints

  • Is a medicine chest, medical equipment, and medical guide maintained and inspected regularly? *
  • Is an on-board complaint procedure available to all seafarers with contact details for the flag State and, where relevant, the recruiting country? *
  • Is financial security evidence for repatriation and for shipowner liability (abandonment) posted on board? *
