Certification and Marks

  • Is a valid International Load Line Certificate on board? *
  • Are the deck line, load line mark, and load line disc clearly marked and legible on both sides of the ship? *
  • Is the ship not loaded beyond the applicable seasonal load line for the zone? *

Closing Appliances and Openings

  • Are weathertight hatch covers, coamings, and securing arrangements in good condition and effective? *
  • Are cargo hold and access openings, manholes, and flush scuttles properly secured and watertight? *
  • Are ventilators, air pipes, and their closing appliances intact and operable? *
  • Are side scuttles, portlights, and deadlights below the freeboard/bulkhead deck watertight? *

Freeing Arrangements and Protection of Crew

  • Are freeing ports of the required area, unobstructed, and free to clear water from the deck? *
  • Are guard rails, bulwarks, lifelines, and gangways/walkways in place for crew protection? *
  • Are the means of safe passage for the crew to and from their quarters, machinery, and working spaces provided and maintained? *

Stability and Loading Information

  • Is approved stability information and a loading manual available to the Master? *
  • Are draught marks legible and is the ship's condition consistent with the stability booklet? *
  • Are the conditions of assignment of freeboard being maintained and no unapproved structural alterations made? *
