Certification and Plan
- Is a valid International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) on board? *
- Is the approved Ship Security Plan (SSP) on board and protected from unauthorized access? *
- Is the Ship Security Officer (SSO) designated and are their duties understood? *
Security Levels and Records
- Is the ship operating at the correct security level as set by the Administration or port, and is the level documented? *
- Are records of security activities, drills, exercises, and threats retained for the required period? *
- Are the last 10 ports' Declarations of Security (where completed) and Continuous Synopsis Record available? *
Access Control and Restricted Areas
- Is access to the ship controlled with an accommodation gangway watch and identity/visitor checks? *
- Are restricted areas identified, marked, and monitored per the SSP? *
- Are procedures for handling unaccompanied baggage and ship's stores implemented? *
Security Equipment and Communications
- Is the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) tested, functional, and correctly configured with contact points? *
- Are the ship's identification number permanently marked and the AIS operating as required? *
- Is security lighting and monitoring equipment specified in the SSP operational? *
Training and Drills
- Have security drills been conducted at least every 3 months and recorded? *
- Do crew with security duties hold appropriate security training or awareness certification? *
- Is the equipment used during the last security drill (SSAS, communications, access control) verified as functional? *
