Rest Hour Limits

  • Does every seafarer receive at least 10 hours of rest in any 24-hour period? *
  • Does every seafarer receive at least 77 hours of rest in any 7-day period? *
  • Is rest divided into no more than two periods, one of which is at least 6 hours, with no more than 14 hours between rest periods? *

Records and Posting

  • Are individual records of daily hours of rest maintained, endorsed, and available to each seafarer? *
  • Is a table of shipboard working arrangements posted in an accessible place? *
  • Are records in a standardised format and in the working language and English? *

Exceptions and Watch Schedules

  • Where exceptions to rest limits are applied, are they authorised by an applicable collective agreement or administration exemption? *
  • Is the watch schedule arranged so watchkeepers are not impaired by fatigue and are fit for duty? *

Monitoring and Corrective Action

  • Are non-conformities in rest hours identified, recorded, and addressed? *
  • Are drills and work scheduled to minimise disruption of rest periods where practicable? *
