Certification and Plan
- Is a valid International Ballast Water Management Certificate (IBWMC) on board? *
- Is an approved ship-specific Ballast Water Management Plan on board? *
- Is a Ballast Water Record Book maintained with dated, signed entries for all ballast operations? *
Treatment and Standards
- Is an approved Ballast Water Management System (BWMS) installed and operating to the D-2 discharge standard? *
- Is the BWMS type-approval certificate on board and the system free of unresolved alarms or bypasses? *
- Are crew responsible for ballast operations trained and familiar with the BWMS and management plan? *
Operations and Port Requirements
- Where exchange (D-1) is used as an interim/contingency measure, is it conducted at least 200 nm from land in water at least 200 m deep?
- Are sediment removal and disposal carried out in accordance with the management plan and port requirements? *
- Are additional local/port-State ballast water requirements (e.g. reporting forms) identified and met?
Monitoring, Maintenance and Contingency
- Is BWMS maintenance, calibration, and self-monitoring carried out and recorded per the manufacturer's instructions? *
- Are contingency measures documented for use when the BWMS is inoperative, and are any inoperative periods recorded? *
- Is any Active Substance/chemical used by the treatment system approved and handled per its safety data sheet?
