Selection & Minimum Standards
- Does each hired officer meet POST minimum standards for age, education, and citizenship? *
- Was a background investigation completed prior to appointment? *
- Were required medical, psychological, and physical fitness evaluations completed? *
- Was a prior-conduct / decertification check completed through the national index? *
Basic Academy Training
- Did the officer complete a POST-certified basic training academy? *
- Was the basic academy completed within the statutory time after appointment? *
- Did the officer pass the state licensing/certification examination? *
Field Training & Probation
- Did the officer complete a structured field training program? *
- Was the officer evaluated and cleared through the probationary period? *
- Were field training officers themselves trained and certified to evaluate trainees? *
Continuing / In-Service Education
- Did the officer complete the required annual/biennial in-service training hours? *
- Were mandated topics (e.g., use of force, de-escalation, bias, mental health) completed? *
- Is firearms qualification current per policy? *
Records & Decertification Reporting
- Are individual training records maintained and reportable to POST? *
- Are separations for misconduct and decertifiable conduct reported to POST? *
- Are officer separations and any sustained misconduct entered into the National Decertification Index? *
