Ladder Condition
- Are ladders inspected before each use and free of cracks, bends, or missing parts? *
- Are rungs, steps, and feet slip-resistant and intact? *
- Are defective ladders tagged and removed from service? *
Selection & Rating
- Does the ladder's duty rating meet the combined weight of worker and materials? *
- Is a non-conductive ladder used near electrical hazards? *
- Is the ladder the correct height for the task, avoiding the top rungs? *
Setup & Positioning
- Is a non-self-supporting ladder set at a 4:1 pitch (1 foot out per 4 feet of height)? *
- Does a ladder used to access an upper landing extend at least 3 feet above the landing? *
- Is the ladder on stable, level footing and secured against displacement? *
Safe Use
- Do users maintain three points of contact and face the ladder while climbing? *
- Is only one person on a single-width ladder at a time (unless designed otherwise)? *
- Do users avoid carrying loads that could cause loss of balance? *
