Written Plan & Monitoring
- Is there a written heat illness prevention plan for the worksite? *
- Are heat conditions monitored using heat index or wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT)? *
- Are high-heat triggers defined for additional protective measures? *
Water, Rest & Shade
- Is cool potable water readily available and encouraged (about 1 cup every 20 minutes)? *
- Is shade or a cool-down area accessible to workers? *
- Are rest breaks provided and increased as heat rises? *
Acclimatization & Work Practices
- Are new and returning workers gradually acclimatized to heat over 1-2 weeks? *
- Are work/rest cycles or workload adjusted during high heat? *
- Is a buddy system used to observe workers for signs of heat stress? *
Training & Emergency Response
- Are workers and supervisors trained to recognize heat illness signs and symptoms? *
- Is there an emergency response procedure for suspected heat stroke, including calling 911? *
- Are means to rapidly cool an affected worker available on site? *
