Seed Sourcing & Treatment
- Are measures taken to prevent introduction of pathogens through seeds or beans used for sprouting? *
- Is a scientifically valid antimicrobial seed treatment applied immediately before sprouting? *
- Are seed suppliers required to grow, condition, and store seed to minimize contamination? *
- Are records of seed treatment maintained? *
Spent Irrigation Water Testing
- Is spent sprout irrigation water (or in-process sprouts) tested for pathogens from each production batch? *
- Is testing conducted for E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella, and other pathogens meeting the requirements? *
- Is product held and not distributed until test results are known to be negative? *
Environmental Monitoring
- Is the growing, harvesting, packing, and holding environment tested for Listeria species or L. monocytogenes? *
- Is environmental testing conducted at a frequency adequate to identify contamination? *
- Are sampling sites representative of the sprout production environment? *
Corrective Actions & Records
- Are corrective actions taken when a pathogen is detected in seeds, sprouts, water, or the environment? *
- Is affected product prevented from entering commerce when a pathogen is detected? *
- Are all sprout testing and corrective action records maintained? *
