Current Good Manufacturing Practice

  • Are CGMPs for animal food established and followed throughout manufacturing? *
  • Are plant and grounds, equipment, and sanitation controls maintained? *
  • Is the facility registered with FDA as an animal food facility? *

Hazard Analysis & Preventive Controls

  • Has a hazard analysis been conducted to identify known or reasonably foreseeable hazards? *
  • Are preventive controls (process, sanitation, supply-chain) implemented where hazards require them? *
  • Is a preventive controls qualified individual (PCQI) responsible for the food safety plan? *
  • Are Salmonella and other biological hazards controlled where reasonably likely? *

Ingredients & Nutritional Adequacy

  • Are only ingredients recognized by AAFCO or otherwise approved/GRAS used? *
  • Is nutritional adequacy substantiated by AAFCO nutrient profiles or feeding trials? *
  • Are guaranteed analysis values verified against product formulation and testing? *

Label Requirements

  • Does the label include the product name, net quantity, and manufacturer or distributor name and address? *
  • Is the guaranteed analysis (crude protein, fat, fiber, moisture) declared? *
  • Is the ingredient list in descending order of predominance by weight? *
  • Is a nutritional adequacy statement and feeding directions included? *

Records & Recall Readiness

  • Are batch production, testing, and lot traceability records maintained? *
  • Is a recall plan established for hazards requiring a preventive control? *
  • Are supplier approval and verification records retained? *
