Program & Specification
- Is metal detection or x-ray defined as a CCP or control point with a documented specification? *
- Are detection sensitivity standards established for ferrous, non-ferrous, and stainless steel test pieces? *
- Is the specification justified by validation appropriate to the product and packaging? *
- Ferrous test piece size (mm)
Performance Testing
- Are certified test pieces run through the detector at the defined frequency? *
- Are test pieces passed at the leading, middle, and trailing positions and, for x-ray, across the belt width? *
- Does each test confirm the unit both detects and rejects the contaminated pack? *
- Frequency of performance testing (minutes/hours)
Reject & Fail-Safe Verification
- Is the reject mechanism verified to divert contaminated product into a secure, lockable reject container? *
- Are fail-safe conditions (belt stop, air failure, reject bin full, power loss) tested to confirm they halt or divert product? *
- Is the reject confirmation sensor functional where fitted?
Failure Response
- Is there a documented procedure defining product hold-back when a routine test fails? *
- Is all product since the last good test quarantined and re-inspected upon a failed check? *
- Are corrective actions and product disposition recorded? *
Records & Calibration
- Are performance test results recorded and reviewed by a responsible person? *
- Is the equipment calibrated/serviced per manufacturer and program requirements? *
- Date of last equipment service or calibration
