Glass and Brittle Material Register

  • Is a register maintained of all glass, ceramic, and brittle or hard plastic items in production and storage areas? *
  • Does the register record the location, number, type, and condition of each item? *
  • Is the register reviewed and updated when equipment or fixtures change? *

Prevention and Elimination

  • Has unnecessary glass been eliminated or replaced with shatter-resistant alternatives where possible? *
  • Are lights and windows in production areas protected or made of safety glass or shatterproof material? *
  • Are personal glass items such as bottles and eyeglasses controlled in production areas?

Inspection

  • Are registered glass and brittle items inspected on a defined frequency for damage? *
  • Are inspection results documented, including confirmation that all items are intact? *

Breakage Procedure

  • Is there a documented procedure to follow when glass or brittle plastic breakage occurs? *
  • Does the procedure include isolating and quarantining affected product and equipment? *
  • Does it require cleaning and inspection of the area before production resumes, with clean-up tools segregated? *
  • Are breakage incidents recorded and investigated for root cause?
