Hazard & Risk Analysis (HARA)

  • Has the appropriate hygiene category (high hygiene or basic hygiene) been determined for the products manufactured? *
  • Is a documented hazard and risk analysis maintained by a multidisciplinary team? *
  • Are hazards specific to packaging (migration, contamination, physical) evaluated for each process step? *
  • Is the HARA reviewed at least annually and following any significant change? *

Product Safety & Quality Management

  • Is a documented product safety and quality management system implemented and maintained? *
  • Are internal audits scheduled to verify the effectiveness of the management system and prerequisite programs? *
  • Is a supplier approval and performance monitoring procedure in place for raw materials? *
  • Are corrective and preventive actions documented with root cause analysis? *

Site & Product Contamination Control

  • Are site security and product defense measures in place to prevent malicious contamination? *
  • Are hygiene, housekeeping, and cleaning programs documented and verified as effective? *
  • Are procedures for control of foreign body contamination (glass, hard plastic, metal) implemented? *
  • Is chemical and ink control managed to prevent contamination and unintended migration? *

Product & Process Control

  • Are product specifications available and agreed with customers for all products? *
  • Is management of change controlled so that safety and legality are not compromised? *
  • Is process control maintained with in-process inspection and testing against specification? *
  • Is calibration of measuring and monitoring devices controlled and traceable to a recognized standard? *

Traceability & Personnel

  • Can the site trace packaging materials from raw material through to finished product dispatch? *
  • Are training programs in place for staff performing tasks affecting product safety and quality? *
  • Are personal hygiene and protective clothing requirements appropriate to the hygiene category? *
