- Is the mechanism known to all intended user groups and are barriers to access (language, literacy, cost, fear) addressed? *
- Are multiple reporting channels offered to reach different stakeholder groups? *
Predictability & Equitability
- Is there a clear, publicized procedure with indicative timeframes and defined outcomes? *
- Do aggrieved parties have access to information, advice, and expertise needed to engage fairly? *
- Is there no requirement for complainants to waive rights to other remedy as a condition of using the mechanism? *
Transparency & Rights-Compatibility
- Are parties kept informed of progress and is information provided to build confidence in the mechanism? *
- Are outcomes and remedies consistent with internationally recognized human rights? *
- Are affected stakeholders kept informed while respecting confidentiality where requested? *
Learning & Engagement
- Are lessons drawn from the mechanism used to identify and prevent future grievances? *
- For operational-level mechanisms, is the mechanism based on engagement and dialogue with affected stakeholders? *
- Were intended users consulted on the design and performance of the mechanism? *
Operation & Non-Retaliation
- Are anonymous and confidential reporting channels available? *
- Is retaliation against complainants prohibited and monitored? *
- Are grievance data tracked, categorized, and reported to management? *
