Investigation Scope & Credentials

  • Is the report stamped and signed by a licensed geotechnical engineer of record? *
  • Does the scope of investigation match the project type, footprint, and load conditions? *
  • Are the number, depth, and spacing of borings adequate for the structure and site area? *
  • Is the report current and reflective of the final site grading plan? *

Subsurface Data

  • Are boring logs, soil classifications, and laboratory test results included? *
  • Is the groundwater elevation reported with seasonal high-water considerations? *
  • Are expansive, collapsible, or organic soils identified and characterized? *
  • Is a plasticity index / swell potential provided where expansive soils are present? *

Foundation & Bearing Recommendations

  • Is the allowable soil bearing pressure clearly stated for the recommended foundation type? *
  • Are settlement estimates (total and differential) provided and within tolerance? *
  • Are deep foundation recommendations (piles/piers) provided where shallow bearing is inadequate? *
  • Are lateral earth pressures and passive resistance values given for retaining/below-grade walls? *

Seismic & Site Hazards

  • Is the seismic site class determined from measured or estimated shear-wave/soil data? *
  • Has liquefaction potential been evaluated where applicable? *
  • Are slope stability and global stability addressed for hillside or fill conditions? *

Earthwork & Construction Requirements

  • Are site preparation, overexcavation, and engineered fill compaction criteria specified? *
  • Is subgrade/pavement and slab-on-grade support addressed? *
  • Are drainage, moisture protection, and grading recommendations included? *
  • Is special inspection of earthwork and fill placement called for? *
  • Photo of representative boring or test pit location
