Fire Sprinkler (NFPA 13) & Fire Alarm (NFPA 72) Acceptance Checklist

Design & Approval Documentation

  • Are approved sprinkler and fire alarm shop drawings on site? *
  • Are hydraulic calculations and water supply data available for the sprinkler system? *
  • Does the installed occupancy hazard classification match the design basis? *
  • Is the AHJ notified in advance of the acceptance test? *

Sprinkler System Installation

  • Are sprinkler head types, temperature ratings, and spacing correct for the hazard? *
  • Are clearances to obstructions and deflector-to-ceiling distances compliant? *
  • Are hangers, bracing, and seismic restraints installed where required? *
  • Is the fire department connection (FDC) accessible and labeled? *
  • Are spare sprinklers and a wrench provided in the spare cabinet? *

Sprinkler Testing

  • Has the underground and aboveground piping passed a 200 psi hydrostatic test for 2 hours? *
  • Have underground mains been flushed at the required flow rate? *
  • Has the main drain (flow) test been performed and readings recorded? *
  • Has the inspector's test connection actuated the waterflow alarm within 90 seconds? *

Fire Alarm System

  • Are all initiating and notification devices installed per approved plans? *
  • Have 100% of installed devices been functionally tested? *
  • Is audible/visible notification (candela, dBA) verified in occupied areas? *
  • Has off-site monitoring/supervising station signal transmission been confirmed? *
  • Is secondary (battery) power capacity verified for the required standby period? *

Commissioning & Records

  • Is the contractor's material and test certificate completed and signed? *
  • Is a record (as-built) drawing set provided to the owner? *
  • Are operation and maintenance manuals delivered? *
  • Acceptance test date
